Things to See in Renmark SA

Renmark is situated on the Murray River in South Australia's Riverland Region. The Riverland bloomed as land was transformed by Australia's first irrigation scheme. The dry climate and year round sun make Renmark a great destination no matter what the season. The Riverland is the heart of an orchard area with citrus, olives, grapes, almonds and stone fruit plus a wide range of other exotic fruit.

The Riverland is Australia's largest wine production region accounting for up to 50% of South Australia's total wine exports. The main grape varieties grown in the Riverland are Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A number of Riverland Wineries offer Cellar Door sales and invite you to sample their range of fine wines.

The district also has several world class golf courses, bowling greens and a Ten Pin Bowling alley. The Murray River itself continues to attract locals and visitors for riverfront picnic spots. Walking trails wind around the River Murray and Banrock Station Wine and Wetland Centre boasts a spectacular trail around the mallee woodland and down to the wetlands. Entertainment and cultural tastes are catered for with numerous restaurants, hotels, clubs, art galleries and the Chaffey Theatre. The McCormick Centre for the Environment contains a 115 seat lecture theatre, catering facilities, a reception area for visitors to be used by nature-based tourism operators.

Go crazy on the leaning towers at the Monash Adventure Park and witness the only suspension bridge on the Murray in action. After all that, take some time out to smell the roses at the largest rose garden in the Southern Hemisphere. While here you can enjoy a coffee and light meal in the new display area, which also holds a classic car collection. The Renmark Rose Festival is held in October and worth the visit.

Water sports are a great attraction to the Renmark river front or you can enjoy a back water dinghy tour or try your skill and enjoy a canoe tour along the many reed-lined creeks only minutes from Renmark. Skippered river cruises are available on the Big River Rambler most days or on the restored steamer the PS Industry on the first Sunday of each month and on Sundays of most long weekends, depending on weather variations.
